Clampmeters for the Industrial/Commercial Electrician
As a general purpose meter for the Industrial/Commercial Electrician, the DE3515 would be hard to beat, especially for the modest price tag it comes with! The range of this compact tester is up to a remarkable 1000 amps AC and DC, accompanied by an impressive 0.01 amp resolution. Its True RMS multi meter ranges have excellent accuracy and there are even some very nice operational features on this like Max/Min hold, Range and Data hold, and the intriguing ability to simultaneously read the AC V and AC A frequencies at the same time as the A or V reading is taken.
APPA has packed a hugely appealing set of features into the A18 Plus and it is a stunning choice for applications where versatility is needed and the range of testing is all that an industrial environment can demand. Offering a hugely robust design that is shock tested from 1.2m, the Cat 4 600V unit offers AC and DC current readings to 600A via its 45 mm opening jaw. As you would expect with such a meter, the AC Amps and Volts ranges work on the “AC + DC True RMS” principle, the only way to get any decent accuracy with non-symmetrical waveform distortion! It gets better....the APPA A18 Plus also includes a Power, Watts, Power Factor, Total Harmonic Distortion meter, and frequency counter to 4 kHz...WOW!! A 43 segment analogue bar graph completes a clean back-lit display but the extra goodies will really clinch the interest...things like inrush current reading, phase rotation, temperature reading are all there as they should be. In all, a very nice meter indeed for the industrial electrician working with motors, power-related testing, VSD’s and general control and drives assessment.
When there are decent sized bus bars to get readings off in the industrial/commercial switchboard the bigger the jaws are on the clamp meter the better! The APPA 16R Cat 4 600V True RMS clamp and multi meter is built to cover this role, accommodating cables up to 51 mm diameter and bus bars to 24 x 60 mm! Currents up to 1000 amps AC or DC are covered by the wide measurement range of this robust shock-proof meter. Max/Min, data hold, and peak hold offer a nice set of additional reasons why this meter must be in the toolbox!
There is a lot of features to the APPA A5 that make it a very handy unit for the quick test of a ‘busy’ switchboard! The amazing thing about the A5 is that is uses an inventive open jaw concept that avoids the need to operate a bulky jaw-style clamp meter when there are many wires in the way...just push the wire into the open slot and the reading is right there, up to 200 amps AC! Adding to its usefulness there is a full multi meter function in the A5, also impressively rated Cat 4 600V!
For the applications where leakage current testing is required, but occasionally it may be necessary to look at the phase current being drawn too, then this is the meter for you! The CEM DT9810 reads from 0.1 mA AC but has a great range right up to 200A! Nice and compact it has a 30 mm jaw to ensure it is useful in all situations and a data hold button to take a reading when space is too tight to allow direct viewing of the display.
