Partial Discharge Diagnostics
Partial discharge activity is an indication of incipient insulation faults and is widely regarded as one of the best ‘early warning’ indicators of deterioration in medium and high voltage insulation. PD diagnostics has therefore become a well-established method of quality control for new assets, as well as condition assessment of service-aged systems.
Megger has an extensive history of manufacturing and supplying PD test equipment to many top industrial organisations for transformer, switchgear and cable testing. These partial discharge testers can take the role of quality assurance for product manufacturing or off-site plant analysis and mapping at almost any voltage the customer requires.
Partial discharge test and monitoring systems can be supplied in the form of handheld tools, as well as bigger, transportable diagnostic products. Megger’s broad range of equipment – from battery operated online PD handheld units to full, extra high voltage (EHV) on-site testing systems – provides solutions for almost all types of MV and HV assets.
Online PD Handheld Scanner
- For fast verification of partial discharge activity in MV and HV plants
- Universal application range, thanks to variety of sensors
- For a quick assessment of the condition of the switchgear and cables
- Allows the allocation of maintenance resources directly to the problem areas
Defects in medium and high voltage systems not only require costly repairs, but also can lead to failures of entire network sections with corresponding consequences. Therefore, it is in the interest of all network operators to recognize signs of impending defects as early as possible and to be able to take appropriate countermeasures on time.
With the PD Scan, Megger offers a lightweight, robust and portable PD scanner that can quickly inspect various type of equipment for partial discharge signals.
Non-invasive tool for online PD measurements in MV and HV substations
- Large colour touch-screen for easy operation
- Dual channel system for direct comparison between two sensors
- Synchronises with power frequency via internal, mains or external sensor for PRPD pattern recognition
Component failure in a substation has serious repercussions. It has the potential to cause injury, damage and unplanned outages, which result in significant disruption and cost. Predictive condition assessment aims to identify faults developing in electrical equipment so that they can be addressed before failure.
Developed with the individual needs of our customers in mind, the Megger Cable Test Van Systems deliver superior ergonomics, optimum speed, user friendliness, and reliability. Incorporated into this unique test van concept are the requirements and field experiences of the users. The result is a test system that sets new benchmarks in cable fault location.
