Insulation Testers

The MIT400 mk2 series insulation and continuity testers are designed not just for Electrical and Industrial, but with an exceptionally wide range of applications from electrical installations, cable testing, motor testing, automotive, ESD, panel building, avionics, maintenance etc.

Insulation testing has been enhanced with feedback controlled test voltages to limit over-voltage to 2%, rather than the industry standard 10-20%.

A variable range has been added to allow any intermediate voltage from 50 V to 1000 V in 10 V steps, where application specific test voltages are required that do not appear in the standard ranges.

Continuity testing is now significantly faster, and a single auto-ranging 0.01 Ω to 1.0 MΩ function replaces the “ohms” and “kOhms” ranges. Retained are the 200 mA and 20 mA test options.

Replacing the original MIT400 instruments the new units feature a redesigned case, back-stand, and 6 cell battery compartment with separate fuse access. All instruments are over-moulded for increased protection and achieve an IP54 weatherproof rating.

The range consists of four instruments:

The MIT2500 insulation and continuity tester has been designed for motor and cable testing, specialist applications and electrical testing  applications, where operation voltages exceed 1000 V and higher insulation test voltages are needed.

The MIT2500 offers both fixed range voltages of 50 V, 100V, 250 V, 500 V, 1000 V and 2500 V, as well as a variable range that allows any voltage between 50 V and 2500 V to be “dialled in”. This is supported by the new test voltage feedback control, which maintains the output test voltage to within 2% of the selected range, even when under test.

The Cat IV- rated MIT515 is the simplest of Megger's new range of small light 5 kV insulation resistance testers for the testing and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment and rotating plant. The tough case is small and lighter than its predecessor making it easy to carry and store.

Now equipped with lithium ion fast rechargeable batteries, the instrument has a large, clear, easy to read, display making it equally suitable for use in both bright sunlight and poorly lit environments. Information displayed includes resistance, voltage, leakage current, capacitance, battery status and time constant. As well as measuring insulation resistance to 10 TΩ, the Cat IV-rated MIT525 also offers various diagnostic tests such as Polarisation index, Dielectric Absorption Ratio, Step Voltage, Dielectric discharge and ramp testing. Offering CAT IV safety, the MIT1525 is compact, light 15 kV insulation resistance tester for the diagnostic testing and maintenance of high voltage electrical equipment. It benefits from the Megger dual case construction, Tough on the outside and fire retardant on the inside.

As well as measuring insulation resistance to 30 TΩ, the MIT1525 also offers various diagnostic tests such as Polarisation index, Dielectric Absorption Ratio, Step Voltage, Dielectric discharge and ramp testing.

Megger's new S1-568 5 kV insulation resistance tester has been specially developed for the toughest of Power Industry testing environments and for the largest of test samples / longest of cables. These top end instruments are targeted at power utilities and service companies working in generation, transmission and distribution markets where extra heavy duty is called for! The S1-568's class-leading charge current (6 mA!), noise rejection (8 mA rejection!), and four software filters (10, 30, 100, and 200 seconds) make the S1-Series Megger's most advanced DC insulation resistance testers to date. Naturally, it is Cat 4 600V, has remote operation via USB, USB or Bluetooth download, comes with the acclaimed Megger PowerDB Lite asset managment software, has rapid-charge Li-ion batteries with 6 hour operation off a charge, and does all the tests you would expect for the biggest of cables, motors, generators, circuit breakers, and bushings. In all, the ultimate 5 kV tester!!

The S1-568, S1-1068, and S1-1568 insulation resistance testers from Megger come with class-leading noise rejection of 8 mA – twice that of most comparable instruments – and enhanced software filtering that has four user-selectable options. These DC insulation resistance testers come in 5 kV, 10 kV, and 15 kV and deliver dependable results in even the most severe of electrical environments, including high voltage transmission and distribution substations.

The performance of these groundbreaking instruments has been exhaustively proven in the laboratory and, more importantly, has been convincingly demonstrated in the field. Accurate and consistent results were, for example, obtained in a working 765 kV substation where no other insulation tester had been able to operate successfully.

Megger’s S1 series of  insulation testers are available in three models:

• The S1-568 tests at up to 5 kV and can measure insulation resistance up to 15 TΩ
• The S1-1068 operates at up to 10 kV and measures up to 35 TΩ
• The S1-1568 has 15 kV capability and measures up to 35 TΩ

All models have a high short-circuit current of 6 mA to ensure rapid charging of items under test. The S1-568 and S1-1068 have a CAT IV 600 V safety rating, at altitudes up to 3,000 m, with the S1-1568 having CAT IV 1000 V to 4,000 m, in line with IEC 61010.

Other innovative features include the provision for remote control via a fully isolated USB port, which makes the instruments ideally suited for use in production environments, and internal storage for date- and time-stamped results. Stored results can be recalled to the display, downloaded via a Bluetooth wireless link, or accessed via the USB port.

To ensure that testing is never delayed through lack of power, these S1 insulation testers incorporate rapid-charge Li-ion batteries that give up to 6 hours of testing on a full charge for the 5 kV model and 4.5 hours for the 10 kV and 15 kV models. With just 30 minutes of charging from flat, the batteries give around one hour of testing time, and it’s also possible to operate the instrument from an AC power supply even if the battery is completely flat.

Compact and lightweight, the S1 insulation resistance testers feature a rugged dual-case design and, with the lid closed, they have an IP65 ingress protection rating. They offer timed insulation resistance (IR), dielectric absorption ratio (DAR), polarisation index (PI), dielectric discharge (DD), step voltage (SV) and ramp diagnostic tests, as well as a dedicated voltmeter function.

The patented PI predictor enables you to obtain 10 minute PI values in as little as 3 minutes! The new method starts to predict the final IR curve from 3 minutes into the test and as soon as the predictor is confident with the prediction, the test is stopped and the predicted value of the PI displayed.
